Reaseheath College

Equine college courses

Reaseheath College, with its state-of-the-art Equestrian Centre, is one of the UK’s leading equine colleges, and is also a highly commended British Horse Society approved training and assessment centre. We offer equine college programmes for school leavers from Level 1 to Level 3 Technical Baccalaureate (equivalent to 4.5 A levels) with students taught by our team of expert staff – many with elite international experience – providing training in all aspects of the modern-day equine industry.

Students will become career ready by training for additional qualifications such as the British Horse Society exams or by joining our Elite Grooming and Riding Academies, Business and Events Academy or Riding Development Squad. There is an emphasis on broadening career choices through work placements, trips, careers weeks and study tours, and we have a highly successful Industry Mentor programme to support student progression to employment.

Equine apprenticeships

If you prefer hands-on learning, you want to earn a wage as you learn, and you have a strong work ethic, an apprenticeship could be the perfect choice for you. You will receive one day of training a week at Reaseheath College, and the rest will be delivered in the workplace with the support of an industry expert assessor.

You could find yourself working as a competition groom, stud assistant or at a riding school. Some of the companies our apprentices have worked at include Friends Lane Riding School, Denstone Stud, Bazaars Stud and more. Successful completion of the apprenticeship is equivalent to British Horse Society Stage 2.

Equine degrees

For college leavers or adults returning to education, University Centre Reaseheath offers a range of degrees that you can study full or part time. You can specialise in growth areas such as equine behaviour and welfare, bio-veterinary science, sports performance, or training and rehabilitation. Whichever path you choose, our industry experienced lecturers will guide and inspire you. Our degrees are strong on science, so you’ll discover the latest research and industry innovations while honing your laboratory skills, helping you to stand out from the crowd.

Our University Centre likes to stimulate your thinking, and you’ll be encouraged to apply for internships and to attend or even present your research at conferences. Several of our undergraduates have won prestigious BEF MAREC Internships at Virginia Tech’s Middleburg Agricultural Research and Extension Centre in the USA.

We work closely with a network of industry mentors and hold equine career events packed with demonstrations and presentations giving you a clear picture of the path you might like to take. And our high profile within the sector means that our work placements are relevant and aspirational, so you build up invaluable experience and transferable skills.

If you would like to turn your passion for horses into a successful career, our highly experienced staff from Reaseheath College and University Centre Reaseheath are here to help you find the right course for you.
