British Carriagedriving is the national governing body for horse driving trials. We cater for a huge range of ages and abilities from 6 years upwards. We have classes for first time newcomers, young drivers, para drivers up to international.
Driving trials is a very inclusive sport. We have Gateway classes which offer a taste of driving trials and classes for Very Small Equines and Heavy Horses. There is no set type and driving horses can be any size or shape. There are classes for a wide range of turnouts where horses and ponies can be driven single, as a pair (two side by side), as a tandem (one in front of the other) or a team of four (two in front and two behind).
Did you know that you can compete up to international level as a backstepper without owning a horse?
We have a very active group of Young Drivers who offer frequent training sessions and regularly send teams to the European Youth Championships.
Volunteers at events are always in demand and we’d love to hear from you if this type of role would be of interest.
